Hilton grants access to star-studded Grammy Awards® to Hilton Barbados Duo
Bridgetown, Barbados (Jan. 29, 2010) - As the 52nd Annual GRAMMY® Awards quickly approach on Sunday, January 31, Hilton Hotels is proud to recognize two of Hilton Barbados’ team members for their own brand of star. Kamar Gall and Shanika Haynes are winners of the first Hilton global video contest and will enjoy Music’s Biggest Night® while mingling with the industry’s brightest stars.
In honor of the brand’s 22nd year as a Recording Academy® partner and the official hotel sponsor of the GRAMMY Awards on Jan. 31, Hilton organized a global Team Member sweepstakes celebrating the powerful influence of music. The “Hilton Rockstar” Team Member giveaway encouraged employees to submit music, video and stories depicting the impact of music on their lives. The result was an overwhelming expression of originality from Hilton Team Members around the world.
The Hilton Barbados duo won with an original track called ‘Rock Da Rhythm In Barbados’, which was written by Gall and the music video filmed entirely on location at the Hilton Barbados.
In the video, Gall sings and plays a ukulele – a small four string guitar – while Haynes provides the smooth, sensual background vocals for the prize winning song. This music video will now be played in all the rooms at Hilton Barbados and can be found on You Tube by searching “Hilton Barbados Music Video” or by clicking here: Hilton Barbados Music Video.
Entries for the Hilton promotion poured in from the brand’s hotels and offices around the world. The winners represent a global Hilton family and support the brand in a number of capacities, from bellman to night auditor to pool and beach attendant. All, however, share a common appreciation for the power of musical expression.
The Hilton Barbados representatives will join seven other winners. As part of their prize, Gall, a pool and beach attendant at the hotel and Haynes, a hostess/cashier at Water’s Edge, will receive VIP treatment including roundtrip airfare to Los Angeles to attend the GRAMMY Awards and GRAMMY Celebration After Party, along with a complimentary three night stay at the historic Hilton Checkers.
Marilyn Soper, the hotel’s general manager, congratulated the pair, noting that the entire team at the hotel was happy and excited for them as they get the chance to enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity at “Music’s Biggest Night”.
She stated: “Kamar picked up the ukulele one day in the Kid’s Club and was playing around with it when our Recreation Manager told him he could take it home and learn to play. In a few days, he was playing it quite well and wrote the song to participate in our recent Star Search competition with Shanika. They then compiled the music video to enter the Hilton Rock Star competition and won. When I first saw them performing, I was amazed at their talent and the video was so impressive, we were enthused that they had a chance of winning the competition.”
In addition to the “Hilton Rockstar” Team Member giveaway, Hilton also sponsored a second sweepstakes to benefit The GRAMMY Foundation. Hilton extended the opportunity for Hilton HHonors members to use their points as currency in a global online auction for the chance to win one of four star-studded packages granting exclusive access to the hottest GRAMMY events.
One prize package awarded to each of the winning bid received from the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific regions respectively. The winning bids will be converted from HHonours points to the corresponding currency and donated to the GRAMMY Foundation.
